ITTA BENA, Miss.—Residents of Holmes, Leflore and Wilkinson counties and surrounding communities can be tested this week for COVID-19 as the University of Mississippi Medical Center and Mississippi State Department of Health continue efforts to stem virus transmission statewide by setting up one-day, drive-through collection sites.

The locations for the latest appointment-only collection sites are:

Dr. Daniel Trent, an associate professor in the Department of Engineering Technology, received the Outstanding Local Leader Award from the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) Council for Supervision.

JACKSON, Miss.—Outstanding students and faculty members from 34 Mississippi public and private universities and colleges were recently honored Monday, March 2, at the state capitol during the annual Higher Education Appreciation Day—Working for Academic Excellence (HEADWAE) program.

HEADWAE was established by legislative resolution to honor individual academic achievement and the overall contribution of the state’s public and private institutions of higher learning.

Dr. Latonya Garner, chair of 91����’s Mathematics, Computer and Information Sciences (MCIS) Department, was recently honored by The Delta Business Journal as one of the Top Minority Business Leaders. 

ITTA BENA, Miss.—The Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning recently celebrated Black History Month by holding its annual Diversity and Inclusion Awards ceremony during its February meeting in Jackson.

During the ceremony, campus and community leaders were recognized for their efforts in advancing diversity and encouraging understanding and respect on their campuses.
