91���� scholar Kristopher Bond has been selected as a 2021 scholar by the White House Initiative on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

It was the day of his birthday when Bond first got the word that he had been selected for this program. With excitement in his heart, he felt that determination and the belief that anything is possible are the forces that drive his commitment to his dreams.

Itta Bena, Miss – August 5, 2021 – 91���� (MVSU) has announced plans to offer a fresh start by forgiving debt for students with current semester balances for students enrolled on or after March 13, 2020 - Summer 2021.

With the clearance of balances, students will be able to have financial holds removed from their accounts and allow them the opportunity to register for the Fall 2021 semester at MVSU.

91����’s Lee Charles Smith has announced today that he is stepping down as Head Coach of the Devilettes Softball team after 19 seasons with the program.  

Smith has decided to retire from coaching but will continue in his role as Associate Athletic Director.

Colonel Jerry Carter has served in many roles in the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks. Still, now the MVSU alum has been promoted to serve as the chief officer of the agency.

The promotion makes Carter the first Black Chief of Law Enforcement at the MDWFP since its creation in 1932.

Students in the 91���� Upward Bound II (UBII) program have been hard at work since April participating in a series of learning activities in STEM education and video production.

The group participated in STEM training when the program hosted its first Teaching Through Technology Training in April. Recently, the students completed and premiered a short film entitled “I Too Matter” on campus.

Thomas J. Calhoun, Jr., Ph.D., Vice President for Enrollment Management/Student Affairs at 91����, is excited to announce the hire of Kylan Alford-Windfield and Acquanetta Parrot to positions in the division of enrollment management and student affairs.

The 91���� Community will celebrate graduates from the 2020 Spring and Fall classes at 8 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2021, at the Rice-Totten Stadium. Both classes received a virtual commencement due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Still, they will now be honored with an in-person ceremony to allow each student to share in all the celebration that comes with a traditional MVSU commencement.

Former 91���� Student Government Association President and Spring 2021 graduate Jhah Cook has chosen to attend Yale University to obtain her Ph.D. in Philosophy.

Cook plans to study in the neuroscience track of the combined program in the biological and biomedical sciences in the fall term of 2021.
