MVSU names Purnell Humanities Teacher of the Year

The Division of Academic Affairs at 91×ÔÅÄ is pleased to announce Deborah Purnell as its 2020-2021 Humanities Teacher of the Year recipient.

"I am honored to be named Teacher of the Year by the Mississippi Humanities Council. This award could only have happened with the support of my department chair and the wonderful administration at 91×ÔÅÄ," said Purnell.

Upward Bound II Dedicates New STEM Lab

The 91×ÔÅÄ Upward Bound II Program recently unveiled a new state-of-the-art STEM Lab in the Technical Education Building.

Program Director, Jerome Petty, welcomed a few high school participants and a limited number of spectators to show off all the latest equipment students will have access to use to grow in science, technology, engineering, and math. 

Thomas to serve as keynote speaker for MVSU's virtual Black History Convocation

91×ÔÅÄ is slated to host its annual Martin Luther King, Jr., Black History Convocation at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2021.

The event was initially set for Thursday, February 24, but inclement weather delayed plans, and organizers had to reschedule recordings. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the university will hold the event virtually and premiere it on MVSU's official YouTube channel and Facebook page.

Zheng honored for advancing diversity and inclusion at MVSU

The Mississippi Board of Trustees of the State Institutions of Higher Learning celebrated Black History Month by holding its annual Diversity and Inclusion Awards ceremony at the meeting held virtually on Thursday, February 17.

IHL recognized campus and community leaders for their efforts in advancing diversity and encouraging understanding and respect. 91×ÔÅÄ’s John Q. Zheng, Ph.D., was honored for advancing diversity at MVSU.
