ITTA BENA, Miss.— At the age of four, Brandon Cash sang his first song publicly with the choir at Brown Grove Baptist Church in Ashland, VA.

As he belted out his first notes, he knew that he loved to sing.

His love and passion for singing has placed him on a journey that has now directed Cash to Itta Bena as the new director of choral activities at 91����.

ITTA BENA, Miss.— The Fine Arts Department at 91���� has a decades-long record of concerts, recitals, and artistic exhibitions, in addition to playing a vital part in maintaining this region's role as an artistic and cultural center and a hub for arts education.

On Sept. 5, the department will be recognized for its influences as the recipient of the Contributions to the Arts Award during the Sixth Annual Museum of the Mississippi Delta’s Leadership and Philanthropy Gala.

ITTA BENA, Miss.—Retention and persistence are the “one goal” for the upcoming academic year, said 91���� President Dr. Jerryl Briggs to the hundreds of MVSU faculty and staff members attending the Fall 2019 Faculty and Staff Orientation.

ITTA BENA, Miss.—This summer, 13 students from colleges across the country visited 91���� to stimulate or, in this case, “STEM-U-late” their future career and educational plans.  

MVSU’s Bioinformatics Program hosted its STEM-U-late (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics University – Leveraging Analytical Technologies for Education) Institute July 5 through Aug. 2.

ITTA BENA, Miss.— President Dr. Jerryl Briggs has announced Dr. Kathie Stromile Golden as 91����’s Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA).

Briggs extended the offer to Golden earlier this week following an extensive national search. She will officially begin in her new role on Aug. 15.

ITTA BENA, Miss.—This summer, 91����’s Tayia Hayes of Tutwiler has been working and studying with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA’s) Insect Cryobiology and Entomology (ICE) Network at North Dakota State University.

MVSU’s Dr. Cassandra Hawkins, assistant professor in the Rural Public Policy and Planning, was recently nominated and selected as a member of the 2019-2020 Class of Whisenton Public Scholars.

ITTA BENA, Miss.— A 91���� faculty member is pulling back the cover on issues related to her homeland of Jamaica in a new project.

MVSU’s Dr. Sherill Morris-Francis is behind a new book series entitled, "Crime and Violence in the Caribbean: Lessons from Jamaica."

A 91���� executive cabinet member was recently spotlighted by a leading national higher education association.
