Gasby keynotes symposium on Alzheimer’s at MVSU

ITTA BENA, Miss.—91×ÔÅÄ welcomed author and Alzheimer’s advocate Dan Gasby last night during its Graduate Read-in Symposium, hosted at 6 p.m. in MVSU’s Science and Technology Center.

Gasby’s wife, the iconic model and restaurateur B. Smith, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s in 2013. Since then, the couple has been open and transparent about their experiences grappling with the disease. 

MVSU’s Kinds named vice-president elect for state’s National Organization for Student Success chapter

ITTA BENA, Miss.—A 91×ÔÅÄ staff member was recently selected to serve as vice president for a state organization dedicated to ensuring student success.

MVSU’s Director of Developmental Studies and Academic Support Larry D. Kinds, Sr. was named vice-president elect for the Mississippi Chapter of the National Organization for Student Success (formerly Mississippi Association for Developmental Education) last week. 

Dan Gasby to keynote MVSU Graduate Read-In Symposium Nov. 19

ITTA BENA, Miss.—Author and Alzheimer’s advocate Dan Gasby will be on the campus of 91×ÔÅÄ to give a keynote address on Alzheimer’s disease during the Fall 2019 Graduate Read-In Research Symposium. 

The symposium will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the Mary E. Crump Auditorium of the MVSU Science and Technology Center. The event will be preluded with a research poster session at 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Science and Technology Center. â€‹

The event is free and open to the general public.​

MVSU’s Newsome selected for competitive development tour in Mexico

ITTA BENA, Miss.—A 91×ÔÅÄ faculty member is one of 10 U.S. higher education administrators from minority serving institutions selected to participate in a four-day development tour in Mexico.

MVSU Graduate Coordinator of Bioinformatics Dr. Abigail S. Newsome will be departing for Mexico next week to participate in the â€œStudy Abroad Development Tour Mexico 2019." 

MVSU announces Fall 2019 Commencement, President Briggs to serve as speaker

ITTA BENA, Miss.— For the first time in several decades, 91×ÔÅÄ students who complete their degree requirements during the fall semester won’t have to wait until May to walk across the stage and realize the dream of earning a college degree.

MVSU has announced plans to host a Fall Commencement Exercise at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the R.W. Harrison Complex.

Annual cotton symposium at MVSU to explore Gullah Geechee tradition

 

ITTA BENA, Miss.—The 8th Annual Sweat Equity Investment in the Cotton Kingdom Symposium is slated to be held at 91×ÔÅÄ November 6-7, 2019.

Dedicated to the 400 years of making a way out of “knowing who we be," as informed by the Gullah Geechee tradition, this year’s symposium will feature an array of individuals and groups.

Non-profit led by MVSU alumna to bring cancer center to Mississippi Delta

ITTA BENA, Miss.—An organization founded and led by an alumna of 91×ÔÅÄ (MVSU) has announced plans to bring a state-of-the-art cancer resource center to the Mississippi Delta. 

The Fannie Lou Hamer Cancer Foundation (FLHCF) will host a Groundbreaking Ceremony, commemorating the beginning of Phase I for the construction of its 10,000-square-foot headquarters, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2019.
